Idea Napkin

1. My talents include reading, writing, and planning, and problem solving. I have experience in job searching and mentoring others. I want to have a career that will allow me to help others solve their problems. I think this business will allow me to combine these strengths and aspirations, as I will be able to provide a way for them to solve their career problems.
2. I'll solve customers' unmet needs by setting up a career search workshop service that will allow them to receive advice and help with career planning and obtaining their professional goals.
3. The people that need these services are people who have unfulfilled career aspirations, and the lack of knowledge to fulfill them. These people will be low-wage workers that have the desire to move up in their career path and make more money.
4. Customers will care about this service because it will help them make more money. Furthermore, for many it will give them the kind of career-oriented achievement they have lacked.
5. Using college students as the workshop facilitators will set us apart since they are currently receiving this career planning and job search advice. They have the most current knowledge in this area of expertise.
I think these elements fit together nicely. I think the main challenge will be getting already working employees to find the time and money to take advantage of these service, and scheduling the mentors with their busy college schedules. It also may be difficult for some customers to put their trust in a college-aged student.

  1. Hi Abby,
I agree that many people nowadays want to progress their careers, but are uncertain as to where to start. With so many different options and services out there, it is no wonder that many people get confused and stuck in careers they do not like. You show great passion when writing about your business plan, and I feel like that will be one of your best strengths as an entrepreneur. Having a strong burning desire to see your plan come to fruition will serve you well when times get tough. I think you are being realistic about the challenges that come along with having college students render these services, but I also think that is part of what makes your idea unique. I look forward to hearing more of your ideas moving forward. Best regards, Darren.

  2. Hi Abby,
Your skills are strong and transferable to your business idea. Your experience in job searching and mentoring are very helpful to your business idea as you plan to give career development and professionalism coaching to people who don't have that kind of experience in order for them to land a better paying job. I agree with your statement that the hardest part about this business is getting people who are most already working long hours to make ends meet to pay money for a service that would also take up a large chunk of their time.
